SUZUKI'S new SX4 S-Cross model will cost from £14,999 when it hits the streets this autumn.

That tab is for the SZ3 1.6-litre petrol version of a car billed as offering ample room for passengers and luggage and the world's first double sliding panoramic glass sunroof with the largest opening area in its area of the market.

Working on a ‘think bigger' philosophy, Suzuki says it created the newcomer by combining its compact car know how with technologies honed for sport utility vehicles.

Styling-wise, the S-Cross has a sporty profile with aggressive front grille, integrated roof rails and slender headlamps with daytime running lights.

Engine options are 1.6-litre turbo diesel and 1.6 petrol in both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive, while CO2 emissions are low at 127g/km for the petrol version with two-wheel-drive and 110g/km for the diesel.

Performance sees the petrol model capable of 0-62 in 11 seconds with a top speed of 111mph, while the diesel boasts the same top speed with a slightly slower 0-62 time of 12 seconds.

The S-Cross four-wheel-drive system has four driver selectable modes - auto, sport, snow and lock, all selected through a dial on the centre console.

Standard kit includes cruise control, electric windows, heated door mirrors, air-conditioning, USB socket and 16-inch alloys, and trim grades are SZ3, SZ4, SZ-T, and SZ5.+

The model will be built at the Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary and mark the start of an expansion programme in which the Japanese brand will extend its exports to more countries and increase its production volume.

A range of eight exterior colours will be available for the S-Cross in the UK, including a new option called Crystal Lime metallic.
