I QUITE often find myself at odds with some motoring critics who don't seem to relate to the majority of drivers like those I know.
For example, some said the Kia Sportage was not up to the likes of the VW Tiguan or Ford Kuga.
But I found it to be virtually as good in most ways, and far better value, with an unbeatable seven year warranty when they have only three.
I've just driven the two-litre diesel Sportage with six-speed automatic gearbox, and it performs just as well as the competition.
Acceleration is excellent from standstill and kickdown is reasonably quick when on the move. It even has a manual gearbox setting for quicker overtaking.
It rides comfortably over all surfaces, apart from some bump-thump from large wheels and tyres, but that's something almost all 4x4s suffer from.
The road holding is just as good as the others I've already mentioned and I really enjoyed driving it.
The inside has a lovely feel with high quality materials and finish and there's plenty of room for four, or five at a pinch.
